Palacio de Prelo
Located in the borough of Boal in the Western part of Asturias, the Manor of Prelo boats about magnificent views on the Bobia and Carondio mountain ranges as well as on the Navia River Valley.
Although it was classified as a historical landmark back in 1982, the Palacio of the Miranda and the Chapel of Prelo were absolutely ruined when they were adquired by their present owner. Over a five year period, Marion Tiemeijer and Antonio Gómez Mendoza undertook a careful restoration work to recreate its original aspect. Nowadays the palacio houses a cosy small country hotel which is ideal for a peace and tranquility therapy which will make you forget the stress of urban life, for family or friends get-togethers or even for business seminars in an exclusive setting of luxury. Alicia Álvarez, the hotel manager, lovingly looks after her guests to fulfill their least requirements.
Although the Manor makes circa 1,000 square metres, the hotel has only 5 large double bedrooms, three of which are suites with their own private sitting room. All rooms have been carefully decorated with antique furniture which intermingles with modern art paintings from renowned Spanish artists (Abraham Lacalle, Amaya Bozal, Kelly, Claudia Morera and Miguel Ybañez, among others). The South bedroom will undoubtedly attract the eye of the visitor with its mezzanine from which the large chesnut beams and the wooden ceiling which support the pinnacle, the most distinctive element of the 3 storey high 16th century tower, can be contemplated. Here at Prelo, guests will no doubt rest in a silent surrouding where only the song of the nightingale might disturb their peace.
Because of its central position at the Navia Historic Park, the Palacio de Prelo is perfectly located as a starting point to visit the castrum (Coaña, Pendia and Chao de San Martín) as well as the many archeological remains scattered along the valley of the Navia River. The paintings in the Cova del Demo are also a must. Nearby, at the hamlet of Froseira, corn is still milled as in former times. Given that the country around Boal is rich in heather, honey of intense colour and taste is widely produced. At the Casa de la Apicultura in Boal, an array of the traditional implements which were used in the past to collect honey from hives, will be found. The impact of emigration to America has left its mark on the urban landscape of Boal where many “casas de indianos” can be seen.
